Florida State Law requires all students to be in regular attendance. The importance of regular attendance cannot be over emphasized. A child should be in school every day he/she is physically able. Vacations, trips, routine doctor and dentist appointments, should be planned so that students do not miss school. Promptness to class is necessary for the student to take full advantage of available educational opportunities.

All students should be on campus in time to be in class at 7:55 am. Instruction, organization and preparation for the day begin immediately. School attendance is important to your child,s success in school. A note explaining the absence, which has been signed by the parent, must accompany the student on return to school, or a telephone call from the parent may be used. A doctor,s note may be requested. Excused absences are defined in the Code of Conduct for Polk County Schools.

The tardy bell rings at 8:00 a.m. If your child arrives at school after this time, he/she will be tardy and will be missing valuable instruction. After 8:00 a.m., check in at the office is required.

Lake Alfred Elementary Attendance Policy

If students are absent, they are required to bring a note from a parent or a doctor upon returning to school or no later than 3 days after returning to school for the absence to be marked as excused.
Notes from parents are only accepted for a total of 10 absences for the entire school year.

Examples of excused absences

Personal illness (A parent note may be used up to 10 days of absence during the year to be marked excused. After using your 10 days of parent notes, a doctor,s note will be required for marking excused.)
Court appearance of the student
Medical appointment of the student
Extreme weather conditions that are approved by the school district such as tornado
Pandemic outbreak such as covid
Special Circumstances-administration can preapprove an absence such as having to be out of town.
Religious Holidays-notify teacher ahead of the absence
Illness or death in the immediate family

Make Up Work For Excused Absences

Students will have the number of days absent, plus 2 to make up missed assignments. Work that is not made up will result in a lower grade assigned.

Make Up Work For Unexcused Absences

Work missed during the student,s first 3 days of unexcused absences during a semester is expected to be made up. The teacher will allow or deny all other work missed for unexcused absences in the semester.
